You can use our app without the need for an internet connection, at even the most remote of airfields and airstrips. The smaller the runway, the less the margin for error that you have. There comes a point where it becomes necessary to set a commitment point, beyond which you must either continue or abort your take-off, the so-called ‘point of no return’.
Commitment Point is designed to track your position on the runway after you begin your take-off roll and it will warn you once you have reached your pre-set commitment point so that you can make an instantaneous decision at that point whether to continue the take-off roll or abort it.
You can use this vital feature with just a couple of very simple steps:
Firstly, you must enter both the runway length and your desired commitment point, however far down the runway you choose that to be. Many pilots would tend to choose a point close to a landmark to make it more visually obvious, such as for example a club hut that’s partway down the runway.
Then, you just need to taxi to the location from which you intend to begin your take-off roll. That might be the runway threshold, or it could be somewhere else, if for example there’s flooding at the threshold itself.
Don’t worry if you don’t know how long the runway is, or how far down the runway you should set your commitment point. We’ve got you covered there too! We’ve even implemented a feature that allows you to walk the length of the runway, setting both the commitment point and runway length as you go.
Any questions, let us know. We can’t wait to have you join us!
